A January Poem
January kicks in the door like, “Alright already, enough with the holidays it’s a new year.
”The decorations are gone,
but the snacks are still haunting the pantry, and your jeans now require a permission slip.
The sun rises late, leaves early,
and contributes absolutely nothing.
Outside hurts your face.
Inside, the scale lies. You join a gym, immediately hate it, you
reward yourself with a smoothie
that contains three desserts
and a lie.
January nods sternly,
hands you a planner you won’t open, and says,
“We’ll try again tomorrow”.
