A March Poem
March kicks the door with blustery flair,
Cold in the morning, warm-ish by noon air.
Clouds in a hurry, sun playing peek,
Forecast says “calm”… it lasts about a week.
Then suddenly—green!
Not grass (too soon),
But shamrocks and socks
And a bright paper moon.
The town wakes up wearing emerald cheer,
Claiming it’s Irish this time of year.
Even old sweaters dug out from the drawer
Swear they’ve been Celtic forevermore.
Parades practice bagpipes slightly off-key,
Someone insists they’re related to O’Shea McGee.
A hat with a buckle sits crooked with pride,
While March rolls its eyes from the blustery side.
There’s talk of gold at the end of the street,
Though it’s mostly confetti and something sticky-sweet.
The wind steals napkins, the clouds threaten rain,
Yet somehow the laughter drowns out the refrain.
Because March, clever trickster, knows what to do—
When winter won’t leave and spring can’t break through.
It splashes the world in bright kelly green
And says, “Hold your hope — see what I mean?”
So raise up a toast (even coffee will do),
To the month that can’t choose between gray and blue.
Half lion, half shamrock, bold and unseen—
March storms in loud… but leaves us green.
